Choosing The Right Trustee

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING THE RIGHT TRUSTEE: Trust officer, Matthew Kimmel, and attorney, Carol Stroup, will be discussing the pros and cons of carefully choosing either family members, private fiduciaries, or corporate trustees to fill the important responsibilities of a trustee both during lifetime and after death. Having the right person or entity named as a trustee can help facilitate family harmony, prevent litigation, and ensure an organized, well thought out distribution of assets and estate administration.
Matthew Kimmel is Vice President and Trust Investment Officer at Farmers and Merchants Trust Company. He holds an Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) designation and also a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation. Prior to joining the Trust Company, Matt worked securities industry specializing in financial planning, portfolio management and wealth transfer strategies. Matt also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Saddleback Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Carol Stroup is an attorney at the Law Office of Carol A. Stroup. She has been practicing law for over 30 years and has a wide variety of experience in civil litigation. Her practice is now solely focused on estate planning, trust administration, and probate. She assists her clients with customized plans for taking care of family members and distribution of assets and helps them with orderly estate administration following the passing of a loved one. Carol is a member of Wealth Counsel, a national group of estate planning attorneys, an active Orange County Bar Association member, and most recently was on the Board of Directors for Waymakers.
